Swift System Environment

The service contract entered into by the Municipal Association of Victoria on behalf of the Swift Library Consortium requires the Library Management System (LMS) supplier (SirsiDynix) to provide a managed service/hosted solution.

The Swift Consortium provides member libraries with the state of the art Symphony Library Management System through its partnership with SirsiDynix, as well as options for additional productivity and patron discovery products and services.

SirsiDynix hosts the Swift database on a dedicated Sun Solaris SPARC Enterprise M5000 server. In addition, there are remote servers for OPACs, Discovery Layer (Enterprise/Portfolio), and the Directors Station reports database.

A hosted Test system is also provided, which replicates the Production LMS. This system is used by the Consortium to thoroughly test all new software products before they are introduced into the Production environment. The same approach is adopted for new releases to already installed software products.

All aspects of server maintenance - backups and disaster recovery, operating system and hardware and software support, etc - are undertaken by SirsiDynix under their Software as a Service (SaaS) agreement.

The following diagram illustrates the operating environment for the Swift system:
